I know that the President is under a tremendous strain. I mean...who wouldn't be under these trying times. I will just say one thing. It takes an extraordinary amount of courage to do what's right for the country.

If this is an idiotic suggestion, feel free to ignore it. I was thinking about all you have written. Have you taken stock of how much of it there is? Is there any possibility of putting together a collection of Rick Moran's writings? I think that finding a publisher should not be that big a hassle (what do I know) and I believe that a new "kid on the block" would be a welcome change from some of the stuff out there that makes my head hurt.
The beauty of it is that you probably won't have to add much new stuff, instead just editing and refining the GREAT stuff you've already written. Something to think about. Meantime, I would be glad to help in a small way...as a matter of fact, I have been thinking that if I took all the money I have "wasted" on newsprint (including that fish wrapper they call a newspaper around here) and spent it on my favorite blogs instead, I and they would be much better off and I wouldn't have worry about recycling them or running over them in the driveway. Pretty miserable when you only buy them for the funnies and the want ads anyway! LOL.

BINGO! Officers are given a special responsibility and honor to command others. This is never something that should be taken lightly or without deadly serious commitment. Ask what kind of message we are sending those cadets who are still at West Point. Honor means something.
Kick him out, fine...but accord him all the shame and dishonor that he has called upon himself by stripping him of his vaunted status and any future benefits he may have had. It's just a pity they didn't find out about this guy while he was still a cadet. There are other peoples lives on the line now and we simply cannot afford it.
George Bush is just ONE Commander-in-Chief. They're were others before him and there will be others after him. Respect for the "office" of CIC by those in service is something that should never change with whose in office.

I DO think he has a right to speak out...HOWEVER, when he uses his status as an officer in the Army to promote his political causes, he begins to fall into the category of someone like Kerry who DID THE SAME DAMN THING! The only difference is that no one even tried to stop Kerry while he was still wearing the uniform of the United States. Morality is a double-edged thing. When you are an officer you are responsible for people other than yourself. Their very lives depend on what you do and say. When someone takes an "oath of office" or is "sworn in" whether that be for President, Senator, Commissioned Officer, or Enlisted...you also VOLUNTARILY take on that morality too, otherwise they're empty words that mean nothing.
However, I DO think that a less-than-honorable discharge should be sufficient in this case. Sending him to Afganistan would be unaccetable to the men and women under his command. You think having 600 or so Congressmen conducting our wars and foreign policy is bad. Try that with every officer and elisted man who decides that he doesn't like his job!

I fully agree with you. There is only one thing I can add...President and Mrs. Ford DESERVE the respect of all and no matter how this is "smoothed" over it will remain what it is...an insult to someone who has served his country well and a cold hard slap in the face to someone who is hurting. My heart goes out to Betty Ford.

What would 9/11 Commission co-chairman, Lee Hamilton have to say about a letter that he received from Sudan in April 1997 asking the Clinton White House to allow the FBI counter-terrorism units into Sudan to look at intelligence of Al Qaeda and bin Laden activities? It seems like Sudan was trying to convince SOMEONE in the Clinton Administration to come and check it out. It is my understanding that this letter is a matter of the Congressional Record.

…On Oct. 3, 1993, U.S.-U.N. forces learned about the presence of two of Aidid’s senior foreign policy advisers, Osman Salah and Muhammad Hassan Awali, at the Olympic Hotel. Quickly, a helicopter assault of 100 American troops was under way. The two were captured, as well as 22 other Aidid supporters.
But as the U.S. troops prepared to leave, they were caught in a well-organized ambush by more than 1,000 guerrillas. Two helicopters were shot down and a third crash-landed at Mogadishu’s airport. The U.S. troops established a perimeter around the crash site, but found themselves surrounded and under heavy fire for 11 hours.
In that firefight, 18 American troops were killed, 78 were wounded and one helicopter pilot was captured.
The next day, the guerrillas celebrated a great victory over America – dragging the bodies of the U.S. servicemen through the streets of Mogadishu.
But it was hardly a force of rag-tag Somalian rebels that had trapped the Americans. The intelligence tip received by U.S. forces about the presence of Aidid’s men was the setting of a trap by a combination of Islamicist forces directed by bin Laden and his top lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri. The ensuing ambush was conducted by hard-core battle-hardened Arab “Afghans†and Iraqis. The main strike force consisted of troops trained by Iran and Iraq. Aidid’s forces were introduced later in large numbers to create the appearance of an enraged mob of Somalians taking revenge on U.S. forces.
